If 1968 was the year Elvis Presley made his dramatic, history-making comeback, 2008 was the same for Toronto rapper D-Sisive.
The once-promising party rapper fell off the map a few years ago amidst personal turmoil and family heartbreak. When he re-emerged earlier this year, the feel-good hip-hop of his past was long gone and had been replaced by a more serious, stern and sophisticated brand of rapping that had more in common with the bleak worldview of Morrissey than the jams of the Fresh Prince.
It was also a very productive year for D-Sisive. He released the heart-wrenching The Book and the Like This Plus Three EP and issued the Nobody With A Notepad Plus Three EP just days ago.
In the meantime, as a special year-end gift to friends and curious music fans, D-Sisive got together with DJ Grouch and put together The Complete '08 Comeback Special mixtape. It will be available for free and exclusively through CHARTattack by clicking the above link as of New Year's Day.
DJ Grouch cuts and slices his way through all the tracks on The Book and the Like This EP on top of Muneshine's "Farewell," Angerville's "Dear Dad (Remix)" and D-Sisive exclusive tracks "Lucky Penny," "Don't Be" and "Wayne Knight."
"It's been a good year and it's been genuinely exciting to make music again," says D-Sisive about 2008. "I just hope some people enjoyed what I'm doing and will continue to pay attention in 2009."
D-Sisive's Let The Children Die LP is tentatively scheduled for release in February.
